Job Description

Start Date will be August 26, 2024.

Role Description:

The teaching assistants support and collaborate with each other and with the Director of After School and Auxiliary Programs to provide a high quality After School experience for students and families. Our After School program complements, builds upon, and enhances the daily academic day curriculum. We offer a variety of exciting classes that encourage learning and play, while maintaining the Buckley community standards and Codes of Conduct.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Partner with colleagues in providing support, supervision, hands-on play with the boys, and classroom management to ensure the safety and needs of the children are being met at all times.
  • Under the supervision of the Program Director, you will be encouraged to create, plan, and lead a variety of activities from free choice options to specialty educational or recreational classes in your areas of expertise. We look forward to you bringing your talents to our program offerings.
  • Assist children with homework to ensure that children complete their assignments.
  • Communicate all discipline, medical, and other student concerns to the Program Director who will, in most instances, handle parent communications regarding these matters.
  • Communicate professionally with parents or guardians during daily pickup,
  • Responsible for activity and room preparations and clean-up for the program.
  • Walk students between buildings and classrooms and multiple trips to the lobby for student dismissals all afternoon.
  • Responsible for taking attendance, managing snack time, logging injuries.
  • Help maintain the After School newsletter.
  • Follow Buckley dress code policies
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Program Director.
  • A commitment through the end of the 2024-2025 school year is expected.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • A college degree or pursuing a degree in education, child development, or a related field is preferred. 
  • A passion for working with children and experience in an academic, after school, or similar setting, such as summer camp or daycare.
  • A warm, positive, can-do attitude, polite and professional demeanor in all interactions with students, faculty, staff, and parents.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Able to take direction and receive feedback.
  • Must be dependable, patient, organized, flexible, and know how to have fun! 
  • Experience creating lessons or leading activities with children.
