Job Description

The University of California San Diego is offering exclusive tutoring services in a wide variety of subject areas. Our tutoring services are specifically designed for students seeking additional support in all TK-12 subjects, AP test preparation, and study skills. We are looking for fun, engaging, and experienced educators to help our students reach their fullest potential in academic achievement! Join us in developing more effective ways to learn and help learners build the skills and confidence they need to move forward in life. A reasonable estimate of compensation for teaching one section of this course is $35-$55/hour. The amount within this range is dependent on course modality, units of instruction, and the number of enrollments. Instructional agreements are made on a section-by-section basis at the discretion of the University, with no guarantee of future teaching assignments for this or other courses. As a condition of employment, the finalist will be required to disclose if they are subject to any final administrative or judicial decisions within the last seven years, determining that they committed misconduct; are currently being investigated for misconduct; left a position during an investigation for alleged misconduct; or filed an appeal with a previous employer. "Misconduct" refers to any violation of the policies or laws governing conduct at the applicant's previous place of employment, including, but not limited to, violations of policies or laws prohibiting sexual harassment, sexual assault, or other forms of harassment, discrimination, dishonesty, or unethical conduct, as defined by the employer. · UC Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment Policy Help students develop a better understanding of course subject matters by solidifying their knowledge Respond to student needs and questions in a positive, supportive manner, giving as detailed explanations as possible Expand students’ toolbox of methods for problem solving Assist students in becoming more successful in their endeavors Effectively implement research-based methods for improving reading, writing, math, and study skills Create a high-performance environment in which students of diverse backgrounds are motivated to succeed Apply technology and leverage resources appropriately to enhance tutorial sessions Promote a positive learning environment and school atmosphere by modeling positive peer behaviors Employ cultural competencies to reach any international students in tutorial sessions Communicate with Program Manager and Instructor Services Team on a timely basis and as necessary

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Advanced degree from an accredited institution required; in exceptional cases an equivalent combination of education and work experience may be accepted Current knowledge of and demonstrated proficiency in subject area(s) Current participation in industry-related professional associations Recognized leadership or authority on subject matter(s)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Highly effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to convey conceptual and complex ideas and information Highly effective interpersonal skills Ability to work well with students of all ages Confidence and ability to inspire others with your love of learning Experience with standardized test preparation– and a willingness to learn new approaches! University-level teaching experience (or corporate equivalent) Experience designing curriculum and measuring student performance Proficiency in the use of online teaching tools Comfort in dealing with international professionals and students Skill with adults for whom English is not the first language

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Job may require CPR certification, tuberculosis (TB) certificate of clearance, and background checks. As an academic department within UC San Diego, all Division of Extended Studies Program instructors and courses must be formally approved according to theregulations of the Academic Senate of the University of California. Eligibility to teach a course is contingent upon this formal academic approval. Once approved, teaching assignments are “by agreement”. The instructor’s Letter of Agreement outlines the deliverables for the course, the course schedule, and compensation terms, and is subject to department policies and procedures. UC San Diego Division of Extended Studies makes no commitment to hire an instructor until it has sent and received a signed instructor Letter of Agreement. Should the course section an instructor plans to teach be cancelled for any reason, the instructor agreement, including rights to compensation for future section meetings, is voided. Remuneration is for classroom hours only and does not include time spent for course preparation or other events.
