Job Summary:
Animax Designs creates extraordinary three-dimensional characters for the themed entertainment, location-based entertainment, commercial, film, and television industries. We are currently seeking interns for our Summer 2023 Internship program!

The Mechanical Design Engineering Intern is a paid internship during Summer 2023. This individual will assist with the development of mid-to-high level complexity electro-mechanical animatronic/animated figure designs for the entertainment industry. The ideal intern will have a strong grasp of mechanism design, drafting, and assembly of complex mechanical systems as well as structural analysis of said systems.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

• Assist with design and manufacturing support of components and complex assemblies in Solidworks from initial concept to production release.
• Assist with the management of high-complexity models/configurations in Solidworks efficiently and effectively in order to work with our creative department who uses Maya/ZBrush
• Accomplish rigid body dynamic simulation in Solidworks to appropriately size actuators and support internal inertial-based analysis efforts
• Develop high precision drawings for complex machined components and weldments
• Daily collaboration with the design team and other departments throughout the design and build of animated figures (animatronics.)
• Adhere to Animax best practices for design, as well as reading, interpreting and implementing customer-based requirements
• All other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Must be currently enrolled in college/university or a recent 2022 college graduate, preferably in Mechanical Engineering or related degree
• Must be at least 18 years old and able to work in the USA legally
• Strong computer skills including knowledge and use of all Microsoft Office programs
• Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally
• Experience with data management software (PDM) for Solidworks or equivalent modeling environment.
• Ability to work within a team environment
• Excellent soft skills and ability to communicate across a diverse range of skilled co-workers

Preferred Skills

• Strong grasp of machining (preferably hands-on) and tolerancing/drafting for the manufacture of precision equipment.
• A good understanding of hand calculation and FEA based fatigue/ultimate load structural analysis methods.
• Knowledge of Maya, ZBrush, or other digital sculpting software
• Themed Entertainment Industry Experience, specifically in ride system or animated figure (animatronic) design.
