Job Description

The Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) is responsible for overseeing all operations within the retail pharmacy, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, managing staff, and delivering exceptional patient care. The PIC ensures safe, effective, and efficient medication dispensing while upholding the highest standards of professional practice and customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

Regulatory & Compliance:

• Ensure pharmacy operates in compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Compliance with California's compounding pharmacy regulations under Title 16, Division 17 of the California Code of Regulations.
• Maintain and renew all required pharmacy licenses, permits, and certifications.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory bodies (e.g., Board of Pharmacy).

Pharmacy Operations:

• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the pharmacy, including workflow optimization and inventory control.
• Specialize in Non-sterile compounding.
• Ensure the accuracy and safety of all prescriptions dispensed.

Staff Management:

• Supervise, train, and evaluate pharmacy staff including pharmacists, technicians, and support personnel.
• Schedule staff to meet business needs and ensure coverage.
• Foster a positive work environment and encourage professional development.

Customer Service & Patient Care:

• Provide direct patient counseling on medications, health and wellness.
• Resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally.
• This includes oversight of daily operations, inventory management, quality control, patient safety, and the supervision of compounding practices. The PIC is also responsible for maintaining pharmacy records, ensuring accuracy in prescription fulfillment, and leading efforts to optimize pharmacy operations while safeguarding patient care.

Financial & Business Performance:

• Monitor and manage pharmacy financials including budgets, and cost control.
• Work with ownership to develop and meet business goals.
• Analyze pharmacy performance metrics and implement improvement strategies.

Qualifications:

Education:

• Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited institution.
• Compounding Techniques certification.

Licensure:

• Active pharmacist license in California in good standing.
• Must meet the qualifications to serve as a Pharmacist in Charge as defined by the state Board of Pharmacy.

Experience:

• Minimum 5 years of direct work experience; prior management or supervisory experience preferred. Skills & Abilities:
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Excellent knowledge of pharmaceuticals, pharmacy law, and retail operations.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment and make sound decisions.
• Proficiency with pharmacy software systems (e.g., PioneerRx)

Job Types: Part-time, Internship

Pay: $64.49 - $77.66 per hour

Expected hours: Full time/ 40 hours
